How to take the perfect group selfie

February is the month of love and partying while carnival season and the opportunities for group selfies are everywhere. Capture those special moments with a perfect group selfie, or called ‘usie’. These photos catch fun faces and expressions, and are about relationships, laughter and treasuring memorable moments that will last a lifetime.

Mastering the art of taking an individual selfie is one thing, but being able to take a photo with more than one person is the most advanced level. It takes ages to get everyone situated, someone is always blinking in each photo and nobody likes the same shot. Well, don’t worry! Follow our 5 tips to make your group selfie as legendary as the most famous example of an usie taken at the Oscars 2014 by Bradley Cooper featuring Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep and Ellen Degeneres, among others.

That’s how you create superb snapshots:

1. Nominate a director

Just hand the camera to the tallest person in the group, or the one with the longest arms to avoid waisting too much time to capture the moment. This person can get everyone into the picture or tell them where they need to go so that there is no issue with who wants to stand next to whom.

2. Mind the ligtht

No matter how good your camera quality is, if the lighting is bad, the entire selfie becomes unusable. Find the perfect lighting that flatters and makes everyone in the group look good. Make sure the light is not right behind your group and the light is all evenly lit, or you will end up with a dark shadowy picture.

3. The perfect background

Choose your background carefully and use it to add context to your shot and to transform your group selfie into something special. Pay attention that you check your mess in the room or avoid strangers in the background.

4. 1, 2, 3, Say Cheese!

Make it clear to everyone in the group when the picture will be taken. So you have the attention of everybody and no one is looking into space or has the mouth in some weird contraction.

5. Give your best

Seriously, just go for it. Enjoy your friends and make each other laugh. Flash your most dazzling smile in the picture or go in for silly poses or pouts, if everyone is in the mood. As long as you are having fun and giving it your best shot, your picture will turn out awesome. Just remember: Don’t overthinking the moment and enjoy yourself!

Have a good time with friends and keep the memories in the picture as a perfect group selfie.
