A short review about the history of FCR, the world’s first device to display medical diagnostic X-rays digitally. Read how the Fujifilm engineers worked with enthusiasm to identify the ideal photostimulable phosphor to use in the imaging plate and how they succeeded. FCR delivered images that were much less affected by the X-ray technician’s skills and expertise and easier to read and use in diagnosis. As the Internet became more and more important in medicine, Fujifilm launched SYNAPSE, an IT solution to facilitate the sharing of digital images and DR (digital radiography) systems that do not require an imaging plate. The medical diagnostic revolution is ongoing.
